Toyota Invests in Solar Energy

Toyota is dedicated to environmental responsibility, and the automaker is putting its money where its mouth is. Recently, the brand announced that it would be investing over $9 million in renewable energy to power manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Missouri, and West Virginia. This includes 10.8 acres of new solar arrays that provide clean, sustainable power while cutting emissions.

The move is designed to increase the sustainability of Toyota manufacturing operations. Helping to build a better tomorrow, this new Toyota investment will offset 6,480,000 kilowatt hours in energy, which is roughly the same amount of energy used to power 800 homes in one year. It will also reduce CO2 emissions and help contribute to the brand’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint across America, from dealerships in Nash, Texas, to global manufacturing sites.

“Toyota continuously looks for new ways to reduce water usage, recycle materials and conserve energy, and we are proud to add solar panels to our line-up of best practices,” said Kevin Bell, Toyota Motors North America Energy Manager. “We are committed to setting an example of sustainability to show how a company can significantly reduce the environmental impact of its operations.”

Toyota has a special project titled the “Environmental Challenge 2050,” which is designed to eliminate all carbon emissions from Toyota manufacturing by the year 2050. It includes six goals, ranging from intelligent and eco-friendly mobility to greener manufacturing. Plus, with this new solar panel investment, Toyota became one of the top 20 corporate users of onsite solar energy.
